Mary Vicary

Mary Vicary began her ballet training at age 10 under the tutelage of Sarah Purvis. As a performer with the Erie Dance Conservatory Company she danced leading roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Dewdrop in The Nutcracker, Max the dog in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Odile in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, and the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, as well as many leading roles in Jonathan Phelps’ Sanctuary, Melinda Howe’s Les Coeurs des Amies, Victoria Silva’s Suite Antique, Jennifer Miller’s Sonata con Brio, William B. McClellan’s Urgency: Stop! Listen, Move…, and Laszlo Berdo’s Concerto for Mandolin. In addition to performing, Ms. Vicary has attended such prestigious summer programs as School of American Ballet, Central PA Youth Ballet, and North Carolina Dance Theatre. In 2008, at the age of 16, Ms. Vicary was accepted to North Carolina Dance Theatre as a trainee where she danced in ballets such as George Balanchine’s Who Cares, The Four Temperaments, and La Sonnambula, Mark Diamond’s Carnival of the Animals, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s The Nutcracker, and performed in original choreographic works by Mark Diamond, Heather Ferranti Ferguson, and David Morse. Mary has worked with many teachers and choreographers such as Dwight Roden, Martha Goodman, Laura Alonso, Terrance Orr, Marianna Tcherkassky, Darla Hoover, Hilda Morales, Patricia McBride, Nicholas Ade, and Thom Clower, among others. Mary has won the 2008 Regional Dance America North East Craft of Choreography scholarship, and in 2009 also won the South East Regional Ballet Association Craft of Choreography scholarship. Mary has taught for summer programs at the Erie Dance Conservatory and Lakettes Gymnastic Academy. Currently she is a student at Gannon University majoring in Sport and Exercise Science and Physical Therapy, and is looking forward to working her second full season with the Erie Dance Conservatory.
